The Desperate Man
The man was sitting in his office when he received the phone call. His wife had just passed out and was rushed to the hospital. The man of course became instantly worried, and left his office right away. When he got there, his wife was still unconscious. He pulled up a chair beside her and held her hand. The doctor came in and asked for him to sign some papers and to ask if he wanted tests for her. He said yes and he signed the papers. He sat down beside her and eventually fell asleep. When he awoke the next day, she was awake. She said that the testing was done. The man remained silent, waiting for her to tell the answer. She had leukemia, of all things. The man started to cry then. How was he going to tell his kids? His friends? His wife just held him, and he held her. The man looked up, with a look of desperation in his eyes. She knew what he was about to say. He would say that she needed to pray. But sadly, she didn't believe in God. She knew this was what he was going to say, and she immediately turned away. Later that day, he left the hospital, feeling defeated. Over the next weeks, he prayed hard. His wife was going under treatment, and she hurt so bad when she returned to her room, she couldn't speak. He held her hand, and held her, and prayed for her. She still wouldn't pray herself though. She told him she wouldn't. Then, a week later, the doctor came and told them the treatments were not working. She had a week, maybe two, and she would be done. They both cried then. The man asked her, one last time. And she did. She prayed her heart out. The next week, she died. The husband was lost in grief. But he knew that he had reached her heart. He knew, that one day, he would see her again.
